Quality Improvement Activity (QIA)

What is Quality Improvement Activity (QIA)?

QIA (Quality Improvement Activity) is a term used to cover a wide range of reviews of your work which may lead to improving some aspect of its quality.

Some common QIA examples include:

  • Clinical audit
  • Review or prescribing
  • Review of effectiveness and outcome of referrals
  • Review of emergency care provisions or a review of the handling of a serious emergency
  • Clinical case reviews
  • Formulation of a management plan for a patient with complex needs
  • Review of preparedness for undertaking a new locum post
  • Review of an aspect of out of hours care
