Feedback from Colleagues and Patients

Core Element D (Domain 3)

Domain 3: Communication, Partnership and Teamwork

You should seek feedback from colleagues and review and act upon that feedback where appropriate.

The GMC have issued some guidance regarding Colleague and Patient Feedback which can be found on their website.

You are required to do 1x MSF (Multi Source Feedback) and 1x Patients Survey within your past 5 appraisals - NOT either / or.

Good medical practice requires all doctors to:

  • Communicate effectively (para 31-34)
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain or improve patient care (para 35-38)
  • Teaching, training, supporting and assessing (para 39-43)
  • Continuity and coordination of care (para 44-45)
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with patients (para 46-52)

Information regarding the widely used NES MSF tool, and general information about MSF, please visit the MSF page.

Information regarding the widely used CARE patient questionnaire can be found from the CARE Measure website.

You are strongly advised to consult with your Appraiser before undertaking either of these activities. Most Health Boards have put in place support for managing the dissemination and collection of Patient Questionnaires. Contact local appraisal administrators for more information regarding this.
