The Improving Appraisal Conversations (IAC) workshops are designed for experienced appraisers.
Complimenting the Refresher training sessions, this half-day workshop is offered to experienced appraisers who wishes to explore other communication techniques used in appraisals, commonly associated with coaching and mentoring.
It is important to stress though, these sessions are not aimed at training appraisers into coaches or mentors.

Please note, the focus of the Medical Appraiser courses is intended (and funded) for primary and secondary care doctors for the purposes of Medical Revalidation. The content is bespoke for this and whilst we welcome applications from other areas, our priorities are with the medical colleagues.
Prior to attending the Improving Appraisal Conversations workshop, participants are asked to complete three tasks as part of the pre-course work:
During the workshop there will be two practical exercises in which you have the opportunity to take the role of appraiser and appraisee. Please be prepared to use an issue that you might bring to your own appraisal to explore with an appraiser in these sessions. Each practice session will be facilitated by a tutor.
A copy of the slides has been made available for info below.
The aims of the workshop is to deepen the appraisal conversation by practicing some of the techniques used in coaching and mentoring, exploring the skills associated with it without making use of any specific models. However, you may find it beneficial for background information to review module 5 of the New Appraiser training: Coaching approach in appraisals.
