The context for medical appraisal has evolved following the pandemic and the launch of the updated Good Medical Practice (2024). Many appraisals have remained in the virtual remote platform, taking advantage of the technology to improve time efficiency; and there has been more discussion around taking a more wellbeing focussed approach to appraisal. There is also more flexibility around supporting information that appraisees may bring to the appraisal which means for the appraiser, the appraisal conversation will look and feel somewhat different.
The below video resources of simulated appraisal discussions were developed as part of the NES Appraiser training programme, designed as learning tools to generate and facilitate discussions at our training events to aid the continued development of appraisers working in Scotland.
None of the simulations are intended to be "perfect appraisals"; some deliberately so as to stimulate learner discussion and education.
The discussions are based on the roleplaying appraiser/appraisee's own experiences. Any similarities with others' experience is entirely coincidental.
