The Medical Director is the Board lead for HAI, directly manages the Infection Control Team and chairs the Healthcare Infection Working Group that coordinates the work to reduce HAI. Significant achievements are improved compliance with handwashing amongst all staff groups (although medical staff still score lower than other professional groups in the handwashing audits); and the introduction of a new Antibiotic Prescribing Formulary with reduced use of broad spectrum antibiotics in both the hospital and the community.
