Supporting Information

The GMC document states: “The supporting information that you will need to bring to your appraisal will fall under four broad headings…”:

These are the absolute baseline for all doctors (and the ultimate indicators of fitness to practise). College and organisational requirements are often included in appraisals as indicators of fitness for purpose (for the job you do). You may choose to bring additional information specific to your own development you wish to discuss. (Please review the overview video for further information.)

The supporting information a doctor submits for their appraisal is split into 6 different categories and it needs to cover all areas of a doctor’s work, e.g. private practice or additional lead or education roles as well as the clinical role.

CPD and PDP

A Personal Development Plan (PDP) is an expected outcome of your appraisal, which should be reflected on as part of the discussions. A log of your CPD activities is required as your supporting information.

QIA

This is a requirement for every revalidation cycle; but frequency for appraisal may differ.

Significant events

Whilst significant events tend to focus on negative experiences, it's also important to consider positive outcomes.

Patient feedback

This is a requirement for every revalidation cycle.

Colleague feedback

This is also a requirement for every revalidation cycle.

Self-declarations

Statements of health, probity, and compliments and complaints are required at every appraisal.
