This toolkit is designed to support you when using the online forms on SOAR (based on the GMC 4 Domains of GMP), to prepare for your annual appraisal and to inform Revalidation.
This toolkit is for doctors who are on the Performers List as GPs, but who also have an additional role. In some cases this role may be a major post such as a Clinical Director, a member of a University department, or the lead clinician for a private medical service. Equally the post may be that of a GP trainer or undergraduate tutor, or an additional sessional post in a hospital setting.
This section is not for GPs who work as peripatetic locums or in the out of hours services. There are separate Toolkits which cover these roles.
The purpose of this Toolkit is to allow GPs with an additional role to provide supporting information about Quality Improvement Activities (QIA) for Revalidation purposes.
It has been provided for two main reasons.
Firstly, it is expected that GPs with an alternative role will provide detailed appraisal supporting information relating to this role at least once in the five year cycle. Those for whom it is a major role may wish to do this more frequently. This Toolkit provides some specific questions to assist the process.
Secondly, it is a central precept of the appraisal system that the supporting information provided for discussion should be relevant to, and reflect the scope of the job(s) the doctor does. The reflective templates in this section aim to provide a reflective framework which fits a range of GP roles. If you feel you would like to present QIA supporting information in other forms which is more relevant, ask your appraiser or the Local Appraisal Adviser (LAA). In most cases the LAA will be happy to support you. Equally you may prefer to use templates from the main GP Appraisal Toolkit if you feel this meets your needs better.
